When do Certificates and CRLs Expire?

Self-signed certificates are valid for one year. The expiration date for third-party certificates varies, depending on who issued the certificate; contact the CA for more information. A Certificate Revocation List (CRL) is valid for a much shorter period of time: days, or even hours.

When using certificates and CRLs, it is important for the clock on the appliance to be accurate, since it is used to determine when these items expire.
