Auto Update of Device Firmware through a Template

Templates support the Firmware Auto Update feature, which helps ensure that your SonicWall security appliance has the latest firmware release.

To schedule auto update of Firmware through template

  1. Navigate to Template View | Device > Settings > Firmware and Settings >Settings tab.

  2. Enable Update Availability options:

    The following options are disabled by the default.

    • Check for available updates: Selecting this option will enable an online appliance to check for available updates and show a notification in the user interface.
    • Critical updates only: Selecting this option will restrict the update availability check only for critical security updates.
    • Download new firmware automatically when available: Selecting this option will download the latest firmware when available, and the installation will happen as per the configuration set under Automatic Installs.
  3. Enable the Automatically Install downloaded firmware option under Automatic Installs and set the schedule.

    This option is disabled by the default.

    1. Automatically Install downloaded firmware: Selecting this option will install the previously downloaded firmware update according to the set schedule.
    2. Schedule: The firewall upgrade schedule is configured to a specific convenient time for automatically installing downloaded firmware updates.

      The Schedule can be set in the below types:

      • Once: The previously download firmware will be installed once in the specified time period.
      • Recurring: The previously download firmware will be installed repeatedly on the specified day in the specified time period.
      • Mixed: Is a combination of Once and Recurring where the previously download firmware will be installed once and repeatedly in the specified time period.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Apply the template to the device groups or devices. For more information, refer to Applying Template to Device Groups or Devices.
  6. Commit and deploy the changes. For more information, refer to Committing and Deploying Updates to Device(s) in the Manager View.
