Add External Hard Disk on Azure

To add external hard disk

  1. Login to Azure Portal via Azure Portal.

  2. Click Virtual Machines and select the VM you want to add external disk to.

  3. Navigate to Settings > Disks.

  4. Click Create and attach a new disk.

  5. Assign the Disk Name, Size as per your requirements.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Power on the VM.

  8. Launch the console.

  9. In the CLI console type show disks.

  10. Initialize the disk.

    Type disk initialize.

    Enter the name of the disk to initialize.

    Type yes when prompted for confirmation.

    Enter a new password when prompted for password.

  11. Activate the disk. Type disk activate. It will reboot the VM and mount the disk on boot. Please enter the password when prompted.

    The password is the password that you have configured in step 10 above.

  12. After the VM reboots, the disk will be active.
