Recommended Migration Steps

The following steps outline the recommended process for migrating to a Gen8 firewall.

  1. Confirm Compatibility – Verify that the source device and firmware are supported for migration.

  2. Unsupported Interfaces –Remove any VLAN, tunnel, or WLAN configurations prior to export, or

    Use theNSM Migration App to convert an export file containing VLAN and tunnel interfaces into equivalent GEN7 target model that aligns with the intended Gen8 platform. Use the converted Gen7 settings file to perform an on-box migration to the target Gen8 device.

    After migration, manually recreate VLAN, Tunnel, and WLAN configurations on the Gen8 device.

  3. Import to Gen8 Device – Upload the settings file to your new TZ or NSa Series firewall.

  4. Validate the Configuration – Review key policies, address objects, and settings to ensure they transferred correctly.
