SonicWall is announcing the End of Sale of the Capture Client Basic offering. The last day to order (LDO) for Capture Client Basic will be January 31st 2022. This announcement impacts purchase of Capture Client Basic licenses through any of the following channels:
a. Distribution Partners using SKUs
b. Sonicwall Flexspend Program
c. SonicWall MSSP Monthly Program
d. MySonicWall e-Commerce platform

1. Why is SonicWall announcing an End of Sale for Capture Client Basic?
With the increasing number of ransomware incidents and sophistication of cyber attacks, it has become apparent that while Capture Client Basic was a low-cost no-frills offering, it is not enough to protect our customers and ensure business continuity. This has reflected in the buying behaviour we have seen from our customers with the vast majority choosing to purchase Capture Client Advanced. As a result, we deemed it unnecessary to continue to offer Capture Client Basic to encourage all customers to purchase Capture Client Advanced.
2. I currently have an active Capture Client Basic subscription that is valid beyond the LDO. Will my subscription continue to be supported?
Yes - this is only an End of Sale announcement that will discontinue the purchase of new or renewal licenses after the LDO. Any active 1-year, 18-month or 3-year subscriptions for Capture Client Basic will continue to be supported until the end of their term
3. Will there be a special SKU offered to allow upgrades from Capture Client Basic to Capture Client Advanced?
The available SKUs for Capture Client Advanced can be used to trigger an upgrade of an active Capture Client Basic tenant. If the activation key is applied mid-term, then any remaining validity of the current subscription will be credited to the validity of the new subscription. There will not be a need for any different SKUs to enable this upgrade
4. I currently have an active Capture Client Basic subscription that is valid beyond the LDO. How can I renew my subscription?
When you choose to renew your subscription, you can still purchase the equivalent number of licenses of Capture Client Advanced. When you try to use the new activation key in MySonicwall, you will notice that your subscription will be automatically upgrade to Advanced. If you choose to do this BEFORE your subscription expires, then any remaining validity of the current subscription will be prorated and appended to your renewal. This feature will be supported from November 2021.
5. I currently have an active Capture Client Basic subscription that I have provisioned using my Flexspend credits. What will happen to my subscription after January 31st 2022?
For subscriptions provisioned using the Flexspend program, a feature will be introduced to allow Partners to make a 1-click upgrade of the tenants to Capture Client Advanced before January 31st 2022. By January 31st 2022, any pending subscriptions will be automatically upgrade to Capture Client Advanced.
Please note - this upgrade will also auto-allocate the additional Flexspend Credits from the Flexspend account that are required to fulfil the count and expiry date for the subscription. However, if the Flexspend Account does not have enough credits remaining then the subscription's expiry date will be revised accordingly. E.g. if the subscription was due to expire on March 31st 2022 with Capture Client Basic, but when it is upgraded to Capture Client Advanced, there are only enough credits to set the expiry date to March 1st 2022, then the expiry date will be updated to March 1st 2022. A separate communication will be sent to Flexspend users with Capture Client Basic subscriptions providing more detail on this.
5. I currently have an active Capture Client Basic subscription that I have provisioned using the MSSP Monthly licensing feature. What will happen to my subscription after January 31st 2022?
For subscriptions provisioned using the MSSP Monthly Program, a feature will be introduced to allow Partners to make a 1-click upgrade of the tenants to Capture Client Advanced before January 31st 2022. By January 31st 2022, any pending subscriptions will be automatically upgrade to Capture Client Advanced.
Please note - this will result in an increase in the price per unit for affected tenants which will reflect in the Monthly Bill from February 2022 onwards.
6. Will the upgrade from Capture Client Basic to Capture Client Advanced require a reinstall of agents or reconfiguration of policy options?
No - the tenant upgrade will be seamless and will not require any action from end-users or administrators to remain functional till its expiry date.
