High Availability issues occur when the SonicWall appliances are not correctly registered and licensed. This article will cover how to confirm if the High Availability pair is properly licensed.
Step 1: Login to your mySonicWall.com account and pull up the "My Products" page. Locate the SonicWall is question:
We see that the SonicWall is a High Availability backup unit based on the product line (for example) "NSA 2600:HA". This product line is never affected or changed by licensing or registration. This is the product that was purchased. We can assume that this unit is licensed as a secondary unit since this a product line with ":HA" can only be used as a secondary unit... however, let's take a closer look at how it was registered.
Step 2: Click on the product in question:
In the product itself we can confirm that it is a secondary unit, let's continue to scroll down the page to view the primary unit.
This does not indicate a reference to a primary unit but rather a secondary unit. This SonicWall that is only meant to be used as a secondary SonicWall was actually registered as a primary unit. This is not supported and needs to be corrected.
We can confirm, on the SonicWall High Availability setup, that the serial numbers were entered incorrectly.
The SonicWall Secondary device can only be used as a SECONDARY unit appears to be the primary unit based on the HA setup.
It is advised to break the HA setup at this time to then be able to setup the HA configuration with the appropriate serial numbers. For more information on how to break a HA pair.
