5 GHz Radio Basic Settings

The 5 GHz Radio Basic settings let you configure core wireless options such as radio mode, channel selection, and bandwidth. Use these settings to establish a reliable and high‑performance 5 GHz wireless network before applying advanced tuning.

To configure 5GHz Radio Basic Settings

  1. Navigate to DEVICE | Internal Wireless > Settings > 5GHz Radio Basic.
  2. In the Wireless Settings section, turn on the Enable WLAN Radio button to provide reliable wireless access to your mobile users.

  3. From the Radio Mode drop-down menu, select the radio mode. The wireless security appliance supports the following modes:

    5 GHz 802.11n Only Supports only 802.11n clients on the 5 GHz band, providing improved performance by limiting connections to 802.11n devices.
    5GHz 802.11a Only Supports only 802.11a clients on the 5 GHz band, ensuring compatibility with legacy 802.11a devices.
    5 GHz 802.11ac Only

    Supports only 802.11ac clients on the 5 GHz band, enabling higher throughput and improved performance for 802.11ac‑capable devices.

    5 GHz 802.11n/a Mixed Supports both 802.11n and 802.11a clients on the 5 GHz band to ensure compatibility across devices using either standard.
    5GHz 802.11ac/n/a Mixed Supports 802.11ac, 802.11n, and 802.11a clients on the 5 GHz band to ensure broad device compatibility and improved performance.
    5 GHz 802.11ax Only Supports only 802.11ax (Wi‑Fi 6) clients on the 5 GHz band to deliver higher efficiency, capacity, and performance.
    5 GHz 802.11ax Mixed Supports 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11n, and 802.11a clients on the 5 GHz band to provide broad compatibility and improved performance.

    For optimal throughput speed solely for 802.11ax clients, SonicWall recommends the 802.11ax Only radio mode.

    Depending on the Radio Mode you select, the remaining fields vary.

  5. In the Wireless Virtual Access Point section, select the Virtual Access Point Group from the drop-down menu. To create a new Virtual Access Point Group, refer to Virtual Access Point Groups.
  6. Click Accept.
