SonicOS 8 Internal Wireless

IEEE802.11r Settings

IEEE 802.11r—also called Fast BSS Transition (FT)—reduces roaming delay when a wireless client moves between access points in the same network. It enables faster handoffs by allowing clients to pre‑authenticate before they roam, improving performance for voice, video, and real‑time applications.

To configure IEEE802.11r Settings

  1. Navigate to DEVICE | Internal Wireless > Virtual Access Point > Virtual Access Point Profiles.
  2. To create a new profile, click Add at the top-right of the page.

To edit an existing Virtual Access Point Profile, hover over the profile and click the Edit icon.

  3. In the IEEE802.11r Settings section, turn on the IEEE802.11r button to enable Fast BSS Transition.

  4. Turn on FT over DS if you want roaming handshakes to occur through the distribution system.

  5. Turn on IEEE80211r Mix Mode if you have both FT‑capable and non‑FT clients.

  6. Click Accept.
