Unable to connect AIM 6.8 even though "the IM" Category is excluded from Intrusion Prevention Service (IPS).
SonicWall's IPS have dedicated signatures for blocking AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) that fall under the "IM" category. The older versions of AIM are being blocked by the following signature ID's.
The Latest AIM 6.5 and above, unlike previous versions, makes SSL connections with its backend server. SonicWall blocks AIM 6.5 and above based on Signature ID:- 1017 named "AOL SSL Connections". In order to use AIM 6.8, exclude Signature ID:- 1017 from IPS. To exclude this signature, please perform the following steps.
1. Go to Security Services > Intrusion Prevention
2. Under "IPS policies", enter 1017 in the text box next to the label "Lookup Signature ID" and click on the configure icon.
3. In the new window that opens, select "disable" from the prevention drop down box. and click OK.
Note:- Enabling or disabling this signature may affect other AOL services.
