There are two possible reasons why Sonicwall LDAP configuration cannot authenticate username and password for LDAP server.
One: If you are using TLS (requiring encrypted password) to login in to the Novell LDAP server. Two: If you are not using TLS and Novell LDAP is set to not allow cleartext passwords.
Resolution or Workaround:
The "Test login" from LDAP configuration page of sonicwall will not work with username and Password, however anonymous bind will work but it will not fetch any user information from the Novell LDAP server.
In order for the login to work you will have to remove the ‘require encrypted passwords from your Novell LDAP server' and/or enable cleartext passwords
To remove TLS on Novell LDAP server, follow these steps:
In Novell iManager, click the Roles and Tasks button .
Click LDAP > LDAP Overview > View LDAP Groups.
Click the LDAP Group object, then click Information on the General tab.
Uncheck the "Require TLS for Simple Binds with Password" check box.
