Adding a domain to CFS custom category will not map the sub-domain correctly
03/26/2020 1148 12303
The website "cnn.com" is rated under "News and Media" category in SonicWall CFS server.
Assuming that we are blocking all "News and Media" websites in CFS, we want to access the cnn.com website. So, we add cnn.com to the custom categories and rate it as "Business and Economy" (which is allowed).
CFS is successfully allowing "CNN.com" after rating it under "Business and Economy". But the sub-domain edition.cnn.com is still blocked as "News and Media". Unfortunately we will not be able to access "cnn.com" as the website automatically redirects to "edition.cnn.com"
Sub-Domains are not mapped for Custom Categories on 6.2.7.x firmware releases.
As a workaround you can manually specify all the subdomains but this is a complicated configuration when you have many or unknown sub-domains (the use of wildcards is not allowed).
A hotfix firmware is available to fix this issue. Please, contact our technical support and request hotfix 185792.
