Sami Feature Guide

Getting started with Sami

The SonicWall AI for Monitoring & Insights (Sami) is available and can be accessed only through the SonicWall Unified Management (UM).

If your organization is not provisioned or licensed for Sami in MySonicWall, the Sami chatbot icon appears greyed out (disabled) in the bottom-right corner and cannot be opened. Contact your SonicWall account administrator or sales representative to enable access.

Prerequisite

  • Ensure you have access to SonicWall Unified Management via a supported browser.

To access Sami, do the following:

  1. Log in to SonicWall Unified Management.

The Sami icon appears in the bottom-right corner of every UM page, including sub-applications.

  2. Click the Sami icon.

The Sami chat window opens and displays the welcome screen, including available quick-start prompts and the query input box.

Once you are logged in to SonicWall Unified Management, you can launch Sami without having to re-enter your credentials.

Logging out of SonicWall Unified Management or experiencing a UM session timeout automatically terminates any active Sami chat session to maintain security and avoid orphaned sessions. Users must log back in to UM to start a new chat session.

Using Sami, you can submit queries in a conversational style, similar to instant messaging. Sami can understand and respond to multi-turn conversations and use documentation sources to give complete answers.

Sami allows you to run up to 500 queries per month, or up to 1000 queries per month for Platinum partners. This pool is shared among all users within the organization (for example, if a standard organization has five users and User A submits 300 queries during the month, the remaining four users share the remaining 200 queries). The query limit applies only to AI-powered queries — conversations escalated to a human support agent are not counted.

The metering system provides the following:

  • A persistent query counter visible in Sami interface

  • An automatic monthly reset of the query count

  • A warning notification when the organization has used 80% of its monthly query allowance

  • A notification when the organization's monthly limit has been reached

If any user exhausts the organization's entire monthly query pool, all users in the organization are blocked from submitting AI queries until the limit resets on the first of the next month. The monthly query allowance cannot currently be extended or purchased. You can create a support case by logging in to SonicWall Unified Management and navigating to Support & Resources if you need immediate assistance.

The query count resets on the first day of each calendar month at 7:00 AM UTC. After the reset, the full monthly query pool becomes available again for all users in the organization.

The reset date shown in the query counter is displayed in your local time zone. However, the actual reset occurs at 7:00 AM UTC. Depending on your time zone, the local time of the reset may differ from the displayed date.
