How to block web browsers like (IE, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc) using Wizards
Resolution
Feature/Application:
Application firewall Wizard will quickly configure your SonicWall to block web browsers.The Application firewall Wizard is the most ambitious and functional wizard developed to date. It simplifies the complex process of creating action objects, match objects and app rules.
Procedure:
Step 1: Login to the Sonicwall Management interface. Click on Wizards on top right corner and choose Application Firewall Wizard. Click Next.
Step 2: Select the Type as " I would like to apply a policy to Web Access". Click Next.
Step 3: Select "Look for usage of certain web browsers" and Click Next.
Step 4: Select Direction as Both. From the Content, select the browsers you would like to block and Click Add. The selected browsers will be displayed in List. Click Next.
Step 5: Select Action Type as Blocking Action - custom block page in-order to block and display a message for the end-user.
Blocking Action - redirect to new location : It will allow you to configure the re-direct URL. When the user tries to access a blocked browser, automatically Sonicwall will take them to the specified URL in that browser.
Bypass DPI : Allows you to bypass DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) when user browse the internet using that browser.
Log Only : Sonicwall will log the access and display in Logs -> View.
Step 6: Click Next and enter the Policy Name(any friendly name). Click Next. Click Apply to save the configuration, and Click Close.
How to Test:
Open the IE browser and try accessing HTTP/HTTPS site. The custom block message will be displayed on the browser.
Navigate to Logs > View, and you will see the logs for this.
Navigate to Firewall > App Rules, and in the Policy you can see Times Matched.
Note: Make sure App Rules is enabled under Firewall -> App Rules as well as under Network -> Zones, App Control is enabled.
