Exporting a Copy of your Current Configuration Settings

Before you begin migration, export a copy of the existing firewall configuration to your local system. Exporting the configuration ensures that you can restore the original settings if you need to roll back.

For SonicWall (SonicOS) Devices

  1. Log in to the SonicOS management interface of your source firewall.
  2. Navigate to Device > Settings > Firmware and Settings.
  3. Under the Firmware and Settings section, click Import/Export Configuration.
  4. When prompted, save the file to your local machine. The default file name follows this format: sonicwall-TZ 500--xxxx-xx-xxxxx_xx_xx.xxxZ.exp where the timestamp portion (TZ 500--xxxx-xx-xxxxx_xx_xx.xxx) reflects the date and time of the export from the firewall.

  5. Keep this file in a secure location. You will upload it to the Migration Tool in the next step.
