VPN: Inconsistent Global VPN Client (GVC) Connection on Wireless Laptops

Description

VPN: Inconsistent Global VPN Client (GVC) Connection on Wireless Laptops

Resolution

If you are unable to consistently establish a GVC connection using the Intel PRO Wireless adapter built into many laptops, follow these steps to work around the issue:

  1. Uninstall GVC.
  2. Disable Windows Wireless Zero Config and use only the vendor supplied drivers and WLAN utility.
  3. Manually set the adapter to CAM (continually aware mode). See the Intel support article entitled: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005645/wireless.html
  4. Reinstall GVC.

Note: This issue may be observed on the following Intel wireless adapters:

  1. PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection
  2. PRO/Wireless 2100A Network Connection
  3. PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
  4. PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection
  5. PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

Users of Inspiron and Latitude laptops may be unable to establish successful GVC connections over their built-in wireless adapters, though the same connection attempts work without trouble over Ethernet. The affected wireless adapters are the Wireless 1350, 1450, 1390 and 1490 running the  Wireless WLAN 4.10 or newer wireless network driver on all Windows XP operating systems.

provides a work-around to this issue by disabling VLAN Priority Support in the wireless network adapter's properties.
