Error: '"flow-control" is not a reasonable value' when saving settings to an SFP interface

Description

Following an upgrade to firmware SonicOS 7.2.0, customers have reported being unable to save configuration settings on SFP interfaces. Attempting to assign an IP address, change the interface mode, or modify any setting within the Advanced tab results in the error message: "flow-control" is not a reasonable value’. This issue is limited to SFP interfaces and does not affect non-SFP interfaces. This error was not observed on firmware versions prior to SonicOS 7.2.0

Resolution

As a workaround,

  1. Log in to the appliance using a terminal tool like PuTTY.
    Type the following commands:
    > config  ← Hit Enter
config(2CB8ED828D68)# interface X16     ← Replace X16 with your interface name
config(2CB8ED828D68)# ip-assignment WAN static   ← Replace WAN with the actual zone
(edit-WAN-static[X16])# ip 60.60.60.60 netmask 255.255.255.0     ← Replace with your actual IP info
    (edit-WAN-static[X16])# commit

      2. Ensure a device is physically connected to the SFP interface before attempting to apply configuration changes. Proceed with the following steps:

  • Connect a device to the SFP interface and verify that the link status is active.

  • Assign the interface to the appropriate zone and select the desired mode (e.g., Static, DHCP).
  • Enter the required IP Address and Subnet Mask.
  • If remote management is needed, enable the desired protocols (e.g., HTTPS, Ping, SNMP, SSH).
  • Click OK to save the configuration.
