Default Security Services on SonicOS (Phase 1)

Many customers purchase SonicWall firewalls along with security service licenses but fail to enable these protections during initial setup. As a result, deployed firewalls often operate with minimal security, leaving networks exposed to Cyber threats, Exploits, and Malware attacks.

SonicWall initiated a “secure-by-default” approach by automatically enabling critical security services within SonicOS firewalls. The primary focus of Phase 1 is to ensure that essential protections are activated as soon as a firewall is registered and licensed, without requiring manual configuration by the user.

Objective

The goal is to improve baseline security posture across all SonicWall deployments by ensuring that key security services are:

  • Automatically enabled
  • Properly configured with default settings
  • Activated upon license validation or first-time registration

It aligns with SonicWall’s commitment to reducing customer risk and strengthening protection without relying on user intervention.

Default Security Services

The following security services are enabled and configured by default:

  • Gateway Anti-Virus (GAV)
  • Intrusion Prevention
  • Anti-Spyware
  • Geo-IP Filter
  • Botnet Filter
