Why cant I resolve DNS ending with .local when using Mobile Connect On MAC Yosemite or iOS?

Description

Why cant I resolve DNS ending with .local when using Mobile Connect On MAC Yosemite or iOS?

Resolution

When using Mobile Connect on MAC OSX Yosemite or iOS Phones you may be unable to resolve DNS names ending in .local.
The reason for this is that Bonjour which is built in to MAC OS and iOS uses .local internally to resolve nearby devices.
As a workaround Aplle suggests this:
If you're building out a new network

When planning for internal corporate network naming, instead of ".local", use a domain suffix such as the following:

.private

.intranet

.internal
.lan

If your network already exists

You can use a two-label name, such as “.example.local” to make your network compatible with OS X Yosemite and Bonjour. Two-label names are compliant with the IANA assignment of the local domain to Bonjour.
