Core dump files, also known as memory or crash dumps, capture the state of a running process at the moment it crashes. These files contain critical debugging information. They serve as a snapshot of what the system was doing during the failure, making them essential for understanding unexpected behavior.
In SonicWall firewalls, core dumps are primarily used for diagnostic and troubleshooting purposes. These files allow support and engineering teams to analyze the root cause.
Clearing them helps free up disk space and streamline system operations. It also prevents clutter from outdated dumps, making active diagnostics more efficient.
