How to hide a WiFi SSID

Description

This article shows how to hide a Wireless SSID from a network. You can apply the information in this KB in the other way around if you can't see the Wi-Fi SSID in your network.

Resolution for SonicOS 6.5

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.

Here's how to configure the wireless settings:

  1. Go to Manage |SonicPoints |Base Settings and click the configuration button of the related SonicPoint Profile.
  2. Move to the "(Radio 0|1) Advanced tab" and enable "Hide SSID in beacon"

NOTE: If you use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, you need to enable "Hide SSID in beacon" for both of them in order to have the SSID hidden, otherwise the 2.4GHz or the 5GHz will still be visible.

If you use Virtual Access Points (SonicPoint | Virtual Access Points), please follow these steps:

For each Virtual Access Point you want to hide, click the configuration button and check "Enable SSID Suppress"

For devices with integrated wireless:

Navigate to Wireless | Advanced and check Hide SSID in Beacon.
