EX SSL-VPN: Swap memory utilisation increases steadily due to extraweb usage

Description

EX SSL-VPN: Swap memory utilisation increases steadily due to extraweb usage

Resolution

Problem Definition:

Memory utilization issue is reported on Appliance running 10.0.4 firmware (clt-hotfix-10_0_4-004 and  pform-hotfix-10_0_4-005) setup mostly for workplace related resource access. The swap memory (after complete utilisation of physical memory) reaches almost 90% resulting in end user session disconnects. Eventhough users report workplace connectivity issues, AMC/SSH access will be still available until the memory utilisation reaches the max causing an appliance lockup.

From the appliance kern.log, we can see the following log reference:-

Jul 7 09:56:37 kernel@127.0.0.1/127.0.0.1 kern.err ACP:event thread may be stuck in apache2 (tid=5585:pid=5496) (curr=152290086 last=152288368)

Resolution or Workaround:

SonicWall is currently investigating this issue and as soon as the fix is available, this article  will be updated. Till then asrestarting the workplace service will bring down the memory utilisation.
