Adding Static Routes

To add a static route

  1. Navigate to the POLICY | Rules and Policies > Routing Policy page.

  2. Click +Add (in the bottom left corner). The Adding Rule dialog displays.


  3. Enter a friendly name for this route policy in Name.
  4. Type a descriptive comment into the Description field.
  5. Select the IP Version
    • IPv4 or IPv6.
  6. Select the Route Type:
    • Standard (default)
    • Multi-Path
    • SD-WAN.
  7. Specify the RIP metric in the Metric field.
  8. For SD-WAN only you can select a Schedule from the drop-down (Always is selected by default). For more information refer SD-WAN Administration Guide.

    To add a new Schedule object

    1. Click on the Edit icon next the Schedule drop-down

    2. Select New Schedule Object. The Adding Schedule Object pop-up is displayed.

    3. Enter a Schedule Name.

    4. Select the Schedule Type:

      • Once

      • Recurring

      • Mixed

        Based on the type selected there are additional settings that can be configured.

    5. Click on Save.

    To Edit an existing Schedule object

    1. Select an existing Schedule from the drop-down.

    2. Click on the Edit icon next the Schedule drop-down.

    3. Select Edit Schedule Object. The Editing Schedule Object pop-up is displayed.

    4. Update the schedule configurations.

    5. Click on Save.

    Choose the Schedule from the drop-down.

  9. In the Lookup/Next Hop tab

    1. Under Lookup section

      1. Select the Source from the drop-down.

        • To add a new Address Object or Address Group, click on the Edit icon next to the drop-down.

      2. Select the Destination from the drop-down.

        • To add a new Address Object or Address Group, click on the Edit icon next to the drop-down.

      3. Choose Service or App.

        • Select the Service or App from the drop-down. To add a new Service Object or Service Group, click on the Edit icon next to the drop-down.

    2. Under Next Hop section

      Based on the Route Type selected the fields differ.

      1. Standard

        1. Select the Interface from the drop-down.

        2. Select the Gateway from the drop-down.

          • To add a new Address Object, click on the Edit icon next to the drop-down.

      2. Multi-Path

        1. Select the Number of Gateways.

        2. Select the values for Interface and Gateway combination based on the number selected in the previous step.

      3. SD-WAN

        1. Select a Path Selection Profile.

        2. Select the Interface from the drop-down.

  10. Click Save or click to the Advanced tab to continue the configuration.
    1. Optionally select Disable route when the interface is disconnected.
    2. Enter the ToS hexadecimal value in the TOS (Hex) field.
    3. Enter the ToS Mask hexadecimal value in the TOS Mask (Hex) field.
    4. Enter a value for the Admin Distance, or select Auto for an automatically created Admin Distance.
  11. Click Add or click to the Probe tab to continue the configuration.
    1. Select a probe type from Probe. The default is None. If a probe type is selected additional options become available.
    2. Select Disable route when probe succeeds. This option is not selected by default.
    3. Select Probe default state is UP.
  12. When you are finished, click Save. The route settings are configured for the selected SonicWall appliance(s).
