Obtaining the NSv Image for Proxmox

After purchasing NSv, you receive an email with a serial number and Authentication Code. Log in to mysonicwall.com (refer to Creating a MySonicWall Account) and go to the Download Center.

Before creating a virtual machine, download the NSv KVM deployment image and required OVMF firmware files.

To download image

  1. Log in to MySonicWall.com and then navigate to Download Center > By Product Line.

  2. Download the NSv KVM deployment image zip file.

  3. Identify the NSv product and click the arrow next to the title; when the details appear, click the download symbol to download:

  4. Extract the deployment files and verify the following files:

    1. NSv_build.wic.qcow2 (such as sw_nsv_-kvm.8.0.0-8026-R6526.wic.qcow2)

    2. OVMF_CODE_sw.fd

    3. OVMF_VARS.sw.fd

    • Preserve the original copies of OVMF_CODE_sw.fd and OVMF_VARS.sw.fd.
    • Each NSv virtual machine must use its own unique copy of these OVMF files.
    • Reusing the same OVMF files across multiple VMs can lead to boot issues (for example, the firewall entering SafeMode on first boot).

    5. Create a dedicated directory per NSv VM and copy fresh instances of OVMF_CODE_sw.fd and OVMF_VARS.sw.fd into that directory before VM creation.

  5. Keep the serial number and Authentication code from the purchase confirmation email to complete product registration after the virtual machine is installed. Refer to Registering the NSv Appliance from SonicOS.
