SonicWall firewall does not show up in traceroute command

Description

This knowledgebase article will help you in the scenario where you run the traceroute (tracert) command and the IP of the firewall does not show on the path to the destination.

Resolution

In this scenario, we run the traceroute (tracert) command for any website, let's say google.com by typing tracert google.com in the command prompt

Here we don't see the SonicWall firewall IP address in the traceroute by default. If you wish to see the firewall Ip address route, please follow the steps below

  • Navigate to Advanced tab under Firewall Settings

  • Toggle on the option "Decrement IP TTL for forwarded traffic"

  • Now run the command again observe how the IP of the firewall will now show.
