MySonicWall Firewall Cloud Backup: Migrating to NSM

Description

MySonicWall is transitioning its Firewall Cloud Backup feature to Network Security Management (NSM).

What's New: Benefits of NSM Backup

  • Centralized backup management across all firewalls in NSM
  • Automated monthly backup schedule
  • No manual intervention required for migration
  • Encrypted backup files, with optional password protection for downloaded backups.

Automatic Migration to NSM

SonicWall will automatically transition and migrate customers who opted in to the NSM Monthly Backup schedule.

Important: As part of the migration:

  • SonicWall will enable NSM Cloud Management & Zero Touch (if not enabled today) to allow the firewall to connect to NSM Management.
    • This will impact On-Box Managed firewalls.
    • On-prem firewalls will not change and will remain on-prem.
  • SonicWall will create a monthly backup schedule for all firewalls under NSM.
  • Customers will have the option to later modify the schedule as per their requirements.

Supported Firewall Models and Eligibility

  • Gen 8, 7 – with support: SaaS management (NSM)included as part of valid support
  • Gen 8, 7 – no support: Receive 3 months of SaaS Management (promotional) until Sep 30, 2026.

How to Opt-in to NSM Backup Migration

  • The Super Admin of the organization can opt-in via the NSM transition pop-up displayed at login.
  • Opt-in responses are logged with the user's name and timestamp for audit purposes.
  • Response will also be shown on the MSW/UM Backup page.

Migration Timeline and Schedule

  • Migration is processed on a scheduled basis with an approximate lag of 1–2 hours after opt-in.
  • Backup schedules are created automatically following migration completion.

Impact on Your Firewalls and Configuration

  • On-Box firewalls that meet eligibility criteria will be moved to Cloud Management under NSM.
  • Migration will only create a backup rule for existing firewalls and tenants registered at the time of migration. New firewalls and tenants added after migration must be configured manually.

How NSM Selects Your Cloud Data Center During Migration

If a tenant already has an NSM Data Center assigned: NSM will use the existing Data Center for any new firewalls in the same tenant that are migrating to NSM Cloud.
If no NSM Data Center exists for your tenant: NSM will assign one based on your organization's address in our system:

  • North America or Latin America → North America Data Center will be selected
  • Europe or Asia-Pacific (APJ) → Europe Data Center will be selected

What happens to Your Existing MySonicWall Backups?
After the migration window closes, all firewall backups currently stored in MySonicWall will be permanently removed and will no longer be accessible.
Important: SonicWall recommends downloading or noting any critical backup configurations stored in MySonicWall before the migration window ends, as they cannot be recovered afterward.

Going forward, all new backups will be stored and managed in NSM.
