Mobile Connect: Name resolution fails for FQDN resources configure with .local domain name

Description

Mobile Connect: Name resolution fails for FQDN resources configure with .local domain name

Resolution

Problem Definition:

iOS based Mobile connect sessions may be unable to resolve DNS names that end with a ".local" DNS suffix thereby affecting any resource access using FQDN. This will affect access to internal corporate network resources that have a .local Domain configuration (example - mydomain.local). The symptoms have been discussed by many users in the following apple forum link:-

Resolution or Workaround:

This issue is a known behavior with iOS 6.0 devices using 3G connections and not an issue with our Mobile connect client. Also users connecting with WIFI based internet connections are not reporting this symptom. Apple has released a following KB article with a resolution for the affected customer:-

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3389

The resolution is to change your private network use a domain-name suffix other than ".local". For more details and assistance, please cont SonicWall Support.
