How to collect client logs on MAC OSx for troubleshooting Aventail VPN issues

Description

This article explains how to collect client side logs on MAC OSx for troubleshooting and analysis of Aventail VPN issues.

Resolution

This article can be applied for Aventail firmware versions 10.7.2 and above and was tested on MAC OSx 10.11.x
The client logs in the MAC machines can be found in the below location:
cd /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/SonicWall
Client logs: The folder "AventailConnect" contains the log files: AventailConnect.log and UI.log.
Client EPC Logs: The folder "SonicWall" contains the EPC logs under "EndPointManager". Please find the logs under subfolder "Library".
Mobile Connect Logs: Please enable the Debug level logging under "Sonicwall Mobile Connect" Preferences. You can export the logs or email the logs AvPluginLog.log and MobileConnect.log
MAC System logs: The log file system.log would be of help in troubleshooting as well. system.log describes issues regarding your whole system. DNS and networking. This log can be found under /var/log in MAC.
CrashReporter logs: In order to debug any crash within a specific application, this log might be reviewed.
To check the DNS entries after connecting using Mobile Connect: Mobile Connect does not directly modify /etc/resolv.conf and instead updates the native OS X name and address resolution mechanisms. To view the DNS config once the VPN is established use the below command:
"scutil --dns"
