Verify the Integrity of the Firmware Images

Description

Hash values are useful for verifying the integrity of data sent through insecure channels. This article will help you to verify the data integrity of the Sonic OS firmware images downloaded from the Mysonicwall account or other resources.

Cause

In several situations, we might be receiving the firmware images of the SonicWall Network security appliances from sources other than Mysonicwall.com and have concerns about the integrity of the firmware images.

Resolution

*For all versions of Sonic OS firmware images

  1. Login to your Mysonicwall.com account and navigate to Resources & Support | Download Center

  2. Search for the firmware version.
  3. Copy the MD5 checksum value of the firmware image by hovering on the information icon.
  4. Once the file is downloaded you can get the hash value with the Windows PowerShell "Get-FileHash [File Name] -Algorithm MD5" command.
    Image
  5. If the Hash values are the same, the data integrity is preserved and no changes are made to the firmware image while in transit.
