SonicWall CSC / GMS Username and Password limitation

Resolution

 

User Credentials in GMS interfaces (/sgms and /appliance) should be created as per following guidelines:

 

  1. When Enhanced Security Access (ESA) enabled:

      At least 7 characters in length.

      A maximum length of 15 characters is allowed.

      Must include characters from at least two (2) of these groupings: alpha, numeric, and special characters.

      Password can have any of the following standard printable ASCII characters:

~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + [ ] { } |:  ; , . / < > ? `- =
1234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

      Must not be the same as the User.

      New passwords must NOT contain a sequence of three (3) or more characters from the previous password.

 

  1. When Enhanced Security Access (ESA) not enabled:

      A maximum length of 15 characters is allowed.

      May contain alphanumeric characters.

      May contain special characters.

      Password is stored in DB after applying MD5 hash algorithm.

 

DB password (for GMS only):

      The password should be a combination of alphanumeric characters and can contain special characters as well.

      Following special characters should NOT be used while constructing DB password:

`&*()-_{|\;\'<>%^"
