Custom FQDN access to SharePoint, Outlook (OWA), Domino, and Web Applications

Description

How to configure Custom FQDN access method for SharePoint, Outlook (OWA), Domino, and Web Application Access

Resolution

Translated & Custom Host Access Methods:

Support for a web application using Alias based Translation is based on the compatibility and complexity of these underlying application. The translated access method is limited to simple Intranet websites without any dynamic elements such as Ajax, Outlook Web Access (OWA), SharePoint, Web Applications, etc. Some applications will not work with Alias based Translation method, in which case Custom Host (FQDN) or Port Mapping URL access should be used. SharePoint and other Web Applications are supported only via Custom FQDN Access method.

This article uses SharePoint as an example for the Custom FQDN Access method. This method provides Single Sign-On Support and similar to Translated access method the Custom FQDN method is also agent less and users are not required to install any agents.

Procedure:

a. Configure the URL Resource as per the below screenshot

URL: http(s)://<SharePoint Server Hostname>
Custom FQDN: This name should have a valid DNS entry mapping to the external IP address (Similar to the workplace URL mapping to appliance external IP address)

In the example, the workplace URL is "workplace.ssl.lab" and its DNS entry resolves to External IP address 67.42.x.x. Likewise, the Custom FQDN entry "sharepoint.ssl.lab" is setup with a DNS entry pointing to the same external IP address 67.42.x.x
