SMA1000: How to do Capture Network Traffic

Description

This article applies to SMA 1000 series appliances (SMA 6200,6210,7200,7210,8200V) on firmware 12.4 or higher.
Network traffic capture which is based on tcpdump and allows you to capture a packet-by-packet list of the data going in and out of the appliance
Packet captures are saved on the appliance with a filename created from the date or time that the capture was performed.

Resolution

From the main navigation menu under Monitoring, click Troubleshooting.

  1. Click on the Network Traffic tab.

  2. Configure required filter parameters. Click Start to begin capturing traffic.

  3. Click Stop to stop capturing traffic.

  4. Click Download to download the captured data.

To download captured data, click the button corresponding to the file you want to analyze or send to Technical Support, and then click Download. Each capture file is a .zip file containing the captured network traffic (for example, eth0.cap) and a readme text file outlining what filters were used if any, and when the data was captured.
