Introduction

This Getting Started Guide provides an overview of SonicWall Generation 8 (Gen 8) NSv XS, S, M, and L virtual firewall products and their use within the SonicWall MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) program.

The SonicWall MSSP program is a monthly, subscription based service offering that enables MSSPs to deliver firewall and security services to customers using predictable, recurring billing.

For SonicOS 8 NSv firewalls (NSv XS, S, M, and L), the MSSP model is delivered under the SecureFirst Service Provider Plan (SPP) for security services. The key benefits are:

  • Monthly licensing with no long-term commitment
  • Multi-tenant provisioning using NSM
  • Centralized reporting and usage visibility
  • Support for cloud, on-prem, and hybrid deployments

  • Zero Touch deployment registration across all supported platforms

  • Management via GUI, CLI, NSM SaaS, and NSM On-prem

GMS and Cloud GMS are not supported for managing SonicOS 8 NSv firewalls.

Services expire on the last day of the month if they are not renewed before the expiry date. There is no grace period before deactivation occurs. On the expiration date, the service gets renewed automatically.

SonicWall offers the following subscription bundles for NSv models under the MSSP program:

  • Secure Connect — Base firewall and connectivity services

  • EPSS (Essential Protection Security Suite) — Essential security services bundle

  • APSS (Advanced Protection Service Suite) — Advanced security services bundle
  • MPSS (Managed Protection Service Suite) — Comprehensive managed security services bundle

PAYG (Pay-As-You-Go) supports the APSS bundle only. Secure connect, EPSS and MPSS are not supported under PAYG.

Each model is available in three MSSP tiers. Below are sample SKU descriptions:

NSv XS:
