Which TCP ports does an SMA device listen on?

Description

This article covers which TCP ports an SMA appliance listens on and suggests a viable work around for users that require the SMA appliance to listen on non-standard HTTP/HTTPS ports.

Resolution

SMA appliances listen for incoming connections only on TCP 80 (HTTP) and TCP 443 (HTTPS) ports.

If an SMA appliance is implemented behind a firewall, router, proxy or similar device, it will be necessary to configure firewall access rules and in some cases, NAT (network address translation) policies to permit and translate HTTP and HTTPS traffic to the internal IP address of the SMA appliance.

If a user requires the SMA appliance to listen on non-standard HTTP/HTTPS ports a NAT policy can be created on the firewall/router to translate the non-standard port (external connection) to the standard HTTP/HTTPS port (internal connection).
