This article shows how to fix the user authetication error "User not found locally"

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.


  1. Login to the firewall
  2. Navigate to DEVICE | Users | Settings
  3. On the Authetication tab click Configure in the Configure LDAP

  4. Navigate to Users & Groups
  5. Disable the option "Allow only users listed locally"
  6. Click Apply

Resolution for SonicOS 6.5

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


  1. Login to the firewall
  2. Navigate to MANAGE | Users | Settings
  3. On the Authetication tab click Configure LDAP

  5. Disable the option "Allow only users listed locally"
  6. Click Apply and OK
