Upgrade Standalone Sma1000 series Hardware & Virtual Appliance.

Procedure to Upgrade Standalone SMA 1000 series Hardware and Virtual Appliance.

Prerequisite/recommendatation before starting upgrade

Physical Appliances:

1. It is recommended to Export a configuration backup to local PC.
2. SSH to the appliance is enabled and accessible. Also ICMP ping on the appliance is enabled and appliance is pingable.
3. Having console access to the device is recommended but not mandatory(console access is needed in case of appliance dosent come up post upgrade automatically).

Virtual Appliances:

• It is recommended to Export a configuration backup to local PC.
• SSH is enabled and accessible. Also ICMP ping on the appliance is enabled and apliance is pingable.
• It is recommended for ESXI based deployments to shutdown the appliance and take a snapshot of the instance prior to applying the Firmware?Hotfix.
• For Hyper-V, AZURE or AWS deployments: It is recommended to take a backup of the configuration and then shutdown the instance and have a new instance created.

To Upgrade Firmware or Hotfix file below is the Procedure:

TIP: Give a continous ping to managment ip of the appliance which you are upgrading.  

1. In the AMC, navigate to System Configuration |Maintenance.
2. In the System software updates area, click Update.
3. Click Choose File to locate the Firmware or Hotfix file.
4. Click Install Update.

TIP: A file upload status indicator appears( Do not click on any tab when the upgrade is going on).  After the file upload process is complete, the update is automatically installed on the appliance. You cannot cancel the installation process. After the installation process is complete, the appliance automatically restarts.

5. After the appliance restarts and once AMC is accessible. Log in to AMC and verify the new version.
