When you try to configure antispam for the first time you might get an error messsage "Mail Server Auto-Detect Failed". The reason antispam failed to detect mail server is because of SMTP(Send E-Mail) service object is present in a service group and its used under NAT policies or access rules. This article guides you how to fix the mail server auto detect failed error when you try to configure Antispam for the first time. Following is the screenshot of the error.
Step 1: How to confirm whether SMTP(Send E-Mail) is present in a service group or not. Go to Firewall | Access rules and choose view style as matrix and select from zone: WAN and to zone: LAN ( Note : If the exchange server is connected to DMZ zone, then select from zone : WAN and to zone : DMZ). Place the cursor on service groups and check if it contains SMTP(Send E-Mail) service in the service group.
Step 2:To remove SMTP(Send E-Mail) service from the service group, go to Network | Services and click on the configure button in the service group which contains SMTP(Send E-Mail) service and then select the SMTP(Send E-Mail) service and click on the left arrow so that will remove the SMTP(Send E-Mail) service from the group and click OK to save the changes.
Step 3: After removing the SMTP(Send E-Mail) service from group, Navigate to Antispam | Settings and check the checkbox Enable Antispam Serivce and then antispam configuration wizard will open. Click on proceed to configure.
Step 4:Click on Next in the mail server info needed alert and it will ask you to enter Mail Server Public IP and Mail Server Private IP and Junkstore IP address. If you are going to install junkstore on the same exchange server then you can check the option “Junkstore runs locally in mail server”. That will populate the IP address of mail server automatically in the Junk store IP field. If you want to install junkstore on a different server then you can uncheck the option Junkstore runs locally in mail server and specify the IP address of server where you are going to install junkstore later. Note: Junkstore can be downloaded from Antispam | Settings page.
Step 5: After entering the mail server information click on confirm and that will create automatic NATs and rules for Antispam Service.
How to Test:
Navigate to Antispam | Status and check the destination mail server status. If it shows operational SonicWall is able to reach the mail server and the next step is to install junkstore.
