Supported Storage Modules on SonicWall Firewalls running SonicOS/X 7 and above

Description

This document covers the supported storage modules on each hardware SonicWall firewall models running SonicOS/X 7 and above

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

There are two Extended Storage slots in Gen7 NSA4700 and above SonicWall Firewalls. Each slot has different role:

  • Built-in storage (M0 slot)
  • Flexible storage (M1 slot)

In contrast, TZ270/270W/370/370W/470/470W/570/570P/570W/670 and NSA2700/3700 has only one slot M0 which acts like Flexible storage. Built-in storage is internal and cannot be replaced on these systems.

Extended storage - Storage which can be physically removed and added to system as part of the FRU.

Flexible storage – An extended storage with features of FRU that are OPTIONAL and may or might not come in various SKU/sizes. For example, on Gen7 TZ systems flexible storage shares same SKU with extended storage modules used in M0 slots of NSA4700 and above. Extended Storage can have multiple sizes. On NSA 4700 and above Gen7 Firewalls, Flexible Storage in M1 slot is implemented in different physical form factor so M1 and M0 are NOT interchangeable.

Extended Storage modules are designed to be compatible across platforms and may play different roles depending on where they are inserted.

For example, module 02-SSC-3117 can be used as Flexible storage on Gen7 TZs expanded storage slot and as Built-in on NSA 6700 in slot M0.

DEFAULT – Storage module provided by default

Fixed System - Fixed system storage (not an expansion storage)

M.2 FRU SKU have “expansion storage” role for all Gen7 TZ series and NSa 2700/3700 series.

For NSa 4700/5700/6700 and NSsp 10700/11700/13700 it is “built-in/fixed system storage”.
