SonicWall GMS/Analytics - Increasing the maximum number of rows for scheduled reports

Description

Increasing the maximum number of rows for scheduled reports

Resolution

By default, when attempting to manage a scheduled report in Analyzer or GMS, (or view a default report), there is a maximum number of visible rows, limited at 100 (As seen here).

In GMS or Analyzer 7.2, it is possible to increase that number. IT SHOULD BE NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT DOING SO MAY IMPACT PERFORMANCE TO THE POINT WHERE THE REPORT FAILS TO RUN if the server does not have sufficient resources to run the report. Caution is advised when making these changes.

Below is shown an example example of seeing the default limitation of the maximum number of rows for a scheduled report, as well as the steps necessary to increase that limit.

The Default Settings:

In GMS, scheduled reports are created under the "Dashboard" section in the "Universal Scheduled Reports" section by clicking "Add a Scheduled Report"

The "Web Activity" reports for "By Site" and "By Initiator" both may show red. Be aware that these reports especially are likely to cause reporting to fail if increased to more than 100 rows.

By default, there is a limit of 100 rows.

Modifying this default limit:

1. It is possible to change this by navigating to the /sgms/techSupport.html portion of GMS or Analyzer for the APPLICATION side
Image

2. Clicking the "Accept" button will allow you to access the Application side internal settings page.

3.The "Maximum number rows allowed" menu may be set as high as 2000. It is recommended to take the hardware limitations into consideration. Clicking "update" saves the change made.

It is also possible on this page to set the row limit for reports with multiple sections (Various components to a larger report). This can be set as high as 100, but no higher, as this encompasses multiple sub-reports.

Test Change: You will now see that it is possible to set the number of rows reported in the scheduled report to the maximum value that you selected.

This will also be reflected in the default reports row selection.
