Description
Goal: SonicWall Email Security aims to provide a comprehensive set of Email Security features as part of the service bundles offered to our customers. For the on-premise Email Security customers, we offer 2 service bundles – Total Secure Email Subscription and Advanced Total Secure Email Subscription. Similarly, for our Hosted Email Security customers, we offer 2 bundles – Hosted Email Security Essentials and Hosted Email Security Advanced. Email Encryption is not a part of any of the bundles and is still offered as an add-on service applied additionally with any of the bundles.
Changes Explained: With the goal of providing comprehensive email security, we are simplifying the license management UI also to reflect our comprehensive security strategy.
a) As we would not be selling any individual anti-virus services separately, we have converged all our individual Anti-Virus license items into a single line item.
Before License Management UI changes | After License Management UI changes |
Email Anti-Virus (SonicWall GRID A/V and Time Zero) Vade Anti-Virus | Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive |
Email Compliance Subscription | Email DLP and Compliance |
b) Top level license line item has been renamed from ‘Email Protection Subscription (Anti-Spam and Anti-Phishing)’ to ‘Total Secure/Advanced Total Secure/Email Protection (Anti-Spam and Anti-Phishing)’. This renaming better reflects the license key of bundles that can be applied at the top level. Individual services are indented under the high-level bundle name.
Q&A:
Q1: I used to see 4 line-items for my Anti-Virus services? What happened to those individual services?
Answer: SonicWall has combined all the Anti-Virus services into a single license item called Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive.
Q2: I see only one Anti-Virus line item. Would SonicWall Email Security Anti-Virus effectiveness reduce?
Answer: The change is only a UI change to consolidate the Anti-Virus service licenses into a single license item. There are still 4 Anti-Virus engines being licensed and activated when the Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive line item is licensed for a customer in the license management screen.
Q3: What happens to my Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive service expiry date if I had different expiry dates for different Anti-Virus services?
Answer: As a part of one-time consolidation effort, your Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive service expiry date would be the same as the farthest expiry date on any of the individual Email Anti-Virus services. The Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive service including all the four underlying individual Anti-Virus services now expires at the same date as expiry date of your longest valid individual Email Anti-Virus service. This is a win situation for all SonicWall customers who have licensed individual Email Anti-Virus services separately and had different dates for different Anti-virus services. Please contact SonicWall Customer Support if this does not work as expected.
Q4: I have a legacy individual Anti-Virus service activation key which I have not applied yet. What happens if I apply that key in the LM UI?
Answer: You would get the Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive service for the same time period as your individual Anti-Virus service time period validity. E.g. if you apply an unused license key of Email Anti-Virus (McAfee And SonicWall Time Zero) with a validity of 1 year, the Email Anti-Virus Comprehensive service would get activated for 1 year.
Q5: I am using a legacy individual Anti-Virus service and I have reset my appliance. I am trying to apply the old key again to activate my Anti-Virus services, but it is not getting applied.
Answer: Please contact SonicWall Customer Support. They would provide you with a new compatible key. This failure scenario is a corner case and has a low probability of occurrence.
