Sending Log Events as E-mail alerts

Description

At times, it is needed to send the logs for specific events as email alerts instead of dumping all the firewall logs to the administrator provided email address as described in article: [[How can I email Logs / Alerts to a network admin?|170503702857558]]

This KB provides instructions on how to configure the log settings to send email alerts for specific events.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.


  1. Navigate to Device|Log |Settings.
  2. Set the Alert level to Alert and click Accept.

  3. Select the Event for which the alerts are required, hover over it to make the edit option appear and click edit.
  4. Set the Event Priority to the same level as the Alert Level.
  5. Check the option "Send Events as E-mail Alerts".
  6. Provide the E-mail address on which you want to receive the alerts under "Send Alerts to E-mail Address"  and click Save.

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


  1. Navigate to Manage | Log Settings | Base Setup.

  2. Set the Alert level to Alert and click ACCEPT at bottom.
  3. Select the Event for which the alerts are required and click edit icon in the right extreme.
  4. Set the Event Priority to the same level as the Alert Level.
  5. Check the option "Send Events as E-mail Alerts".
  6. Provide the E-mail address on which you want to receive the alerts under "Send Alerts to E-mail Address" and click Accept.
