Remote Desktop (RDP) security warnings when connecting to Remote Desktop shortcuts with SonicWall CSE App

Description

When connecting to computers via Remote Desktop (RDP) shortcuts the user is getting a security warning.  This is due to the April 20206 security update that was released by Microsoft to address CVE-2026-26151. This is expected behavior resulting form RDP client changes made in Microsoft's update.

Cause

The April 2026 security update from Microsoft changed the behavior of prompts when connecting to computers using Remote Desktop (RDP) shortcuts.

Resolution

At this time, we’d like to summarize our findings and guidance clearly:

  • The RDP security warning you are encountering is expected behavior resulting from Microsoft’s recent RDP client changes.
  • This change is affecting many applications industry‑wide, and other MSPs and the broader community are seeing similar challenges and have aligned on interim approaches, as discussed here: RDP Client Update Causing Ticket Spike : r/msp
  • There is currently no supported method within the SonicWall CSE App to suppress or modify this Microsoft prompt.
  • SonicWall cannot provide official guidance or recommendations for Microsoft‑side configuration changes, including registry edits, Group Policy (GPO) settings, or endpoint security adjustments.
  • Any decision to implement Microsoft‑side mitigations must be evaluated internally based on your organization’s security policies and risk tolerance.
  • Until a product‑level enhancement becomes available, the recommended approach is to:
