Pivot tables to view Event Logs

Description

This KB will show you how to use Microsoft Excel to view and create Pivot Tables of the Firewall Event Logs

Cause

Instructions for creating Pivot Tables using Microsoft Excel

  1. Navigate to Monitor | Logs | System Logs
  2. Export the log as csv

  3. Navigate to the download location and open the file in Microsoft Excel

  4. Select the first column

  5. Navigate to Data | Text to Columns
    Image
  6. Choose Delimited and click Next

  7. Select Comma
    Image
  8. Click Next | Finish
    Image
  9. Select the first cell (A1)
    Image
  10. Press and hold Left Ctrl + Left Shift (keep both keys pressed)
  11. Press the right arrow key to select the top row (Continue to keep the Ctrl and Shift keys pressed).Image
  12. Release the right arrow key and press the down arrow key to select all the rows in the sheet (Continue to keep the Ctrl and Shift keys pressed).Image
  13. GUnder Insert, choose Pivot Table | From Table/Range

  14. Click Ok

  15. Drag the fields into the desired areas

  16. You should then be able to sort the events in descending order
