SMA: How to create snapshot from CLI

Description

Snapshot will contain the configuration, logs and network captures which would help Technical Support to diagnose any problems with appliance. This can be large if appliance has Debug logging enabled or if it has any core / dump files created. Snapshot can be created from AMC Troubleshooting section, however in case of large snapshots it may time out and fail.

Cause

In cases of AMC not accessible / slow while creating snapshot, we can create snapshot from CLI.

Resolution

Using CLI, we can make only full snapshot. Partial snapshot can be done from AMC only.

Steps to create snapshot using CLI:

1. To create snapshot using CLI, login to appliance via SSH or console. To see if SSH access is allowed , navigate to Services - SSH, click Configure.

2. Run the command: /usr/local/snapshot/snapshot

Image

3. Once done, login to appliance using WinSCP and navigate to /var/log/snapshots. Snapshot file will be available along with date and Timestamp. Download and provide to Technical Support for any appliance issues.
