    Description

    iOS/iPad devices fails to provision EPC using ActiveSync post upgrade to 10.7.1 < 10.5.6

    Resolution

    Applies to:

    Product: Sonicwall SRA EX7000 Base Appliance
    Firmware Version: 10.7.1


    Problem Description:

    Customer is running Cluster mode with Ver-10.5.6 mobile users are works perfectly fine.

    Now customer migrated to new setup EX 9000 cluster pair running on 10.7.1 and then upgraded to 10.7.2, however existing ActiveSync are failing EPC and placed in to deny zone.

    When users are connecting to the new cluster EPC fails and they are placed in quarantine. We noticed that the Device ID which the Aventail displays in the log is not the Device ID the actual device which is connecting transmits.

    Here is the device ID it shows in the logs now “KU050GC1T9063396SG4E6C318S” but this is not the valid serial number of the mobile device

    All mobile devices are already registered in the AD / Exchange of the customer and the only change new firmware version 10.7.2 firmware.

    Here are the repro steps :-
    1. Created a new resource variable "{serialNumber-AD}“ which is used in EPC as an Equipment ID
    2. Created a new Device Profile for Active Sync and used the above Equipment ID within this device profile
    3. Created a new EPC Zone with the above created Device Profile
    4. Added the EPC Zone to the Access rules
    5. Removed all old components (EPC Device profile and EPC Zone) from the configuration
    6. Applied the changes

    If we look at the session logs of the Aventail mapping of usernames to device IDs is correct. Nevertheless the "unregistredDevices.log" shows the wrong mapping.

    Users do get access to the Active Sync resource. But all the events pulled from the "unregistredDevices.log" are wrong and so all the scripts working with that file are creating faulty entries in the backend systems!

    Resolution/Workaround:

    Engineering identified the root cause and this will be addressed with latest 10.7.2 Hotfixes. Please get in touch with Technical Support if you have any queries.
