How to upgrade the SonicCore in the NSv via the System update option?

Description

When the SonicWall NSv is upgraded using System Update, both SonicCore and SonicOS are upgraded. All configuration and registration settings are retained. SonicCore upgrade for NSv can be done either from the console login or through the SSH connection.

When upgrading a High Availability pair using System Update, upgrade each unit individually. The active unit must be upgraded first and then the idle unit after forcing a Failover.

Resolution

1)    Login to the SonicWall NSv using SSH or console.

2)    The console screen will show the System Info of the NSv such as the Serial Number, Model name, SonicOS version, System Up Time, etc.

3)    Use the Up/Down keys to navigate on the Left panel to ‘System Update’ screen. On the right-Hand side of the System Update screen, the current SonicCore version will be displayed.

4)    Hit ‘Enter’ to edit the item. The firewall will start to Check for New System updates. Again hit ‘Enter’ to confirm the check.

Note: Firewall should have an Internet connection to complete the check. If the WAN interface is not configured in the firewall, please configure it before performing the System update.

5)    If a newer version is available, the details will be shown on the screen. Make sure you have the backup of the current settings and then hit ‘Enter’ to Begin update.

6)    The Download progress screen will be displayed. Do not power off or reboot the firewall during this process.

7)    Once the download is complete, the firewall must be rebooted to complete the update.
