Feature/Application:
This KB article gives you the information on how to reduce noice sensitivity level in sonicpoint.
This troubleshooting step is done when you find lot of interference in IDS scan.
Interference
is anything which alters, modifies, or disrupts a signal
as it travels along a
channel
between a source
and a receiver. The term typically refers to the addition of unwanted signals to a useful signal.
Neighboring wireless networks and devices can affect signal strength, speed, and range of the wireless security appliance. Also, devices such as cordless phones, radios, microwave ovens, and televisions may cause interference on the wireless security appliance.
Because the air is shared by all transmitters, transmissions by any device at the same frequency as an access point's radio can cause interference. Because 802.11 wireless networks operate in unlicensed bands used by many technologies, such as microwave ovens, video surveillance cameras, cordless phones, they are subject to interference. In addition, wireless access points sharing the same channel might interfere with each other. The effect of interference is highly dependent on the strength of the transmission and the distance from the interferer. Access points closest to and on the same channel as an interferer will be affected more than those that are further away.
Procedure:
- Change the "main" on the addressbar with 'diag'
- Change https://192.254.1.1/main.html to https://192.254.1.1/diag.html where 192.254.1.1 is the sonicwall LAN ip address in the example
NOTE:-Read the disclaimer. This is an internal settings page where you have extremely sensitive settings of the firewall hardware. Please make sure that you are not making any other settings change other than the below explained.
- Click on Internal settings as below
- Under wireless settings->SonicPoint-Ni/Ne Noise Sensitivity Level: (The higher noise sensitivity level should be selected when RF environment is getting noiser).
- In the drop down select LOW.
- Uncheck SonicPointN Reboot When Noise Safe Mode Detected.
