How to increase default administrator user logout inactivity timeout period?

Description

New SonicWall administrators might face the challenge of device logging out automatically after a brief period of time.

This becomes challenging if you are setting up a device and have to simultaneously work on multiple other devices' configurations like setting remote VPN, configuring a switch, etc.

The Default value for the inactivity logout can be changed from the firewall Administration settings.

NOTE: The default timeout value is set to 5 minutes for all UTM devices.

Depending on the firmware and the model used, refer to the below steps :

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.


  1. Log in to the firewall in configuration mode.
  2. Navigate to Device | Settings > Administration.
  3. Switch to the Login/Multiple Administrators tab.
  4. Edit the field Log out the Admin after inactivity of (mins) to the desired value.

Resolution for SonicOS 6.5

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.


  1. Log in to the firewall in configuration mode.
  2. Navigate to Manage | System Setup > Appliance - Base Settings.
  3. Navigate to Login Security Section.
  4. Edit the field Log out the Admin after inactivity of (mins) to the desired value.
