How to get logs from NetExtender Client

Description

The article describes how to gather logs from the NetExtender client for SonicWall technical support. Netextender generates 2 types of logs - NetExtender Logs & NetExtender Debug Logs.

NetExtender Logs provide basic details like version, connection/disconnection times & session information etc. while debug logs focus on details related to services, tunnel closures etc.

Resolution

If facing issues with NetExtender client or its connectivity, SonicWall Technical Support agent might ask for NetExtender logs and debug logs for analysis.

In order to get the relevant logs please follow the instructions below:

Obtaining NetExtender Logs from client:

1. Launch the NetExtender client and click on Log viewer icon at left bottom side of client. You can also open log viewer from system tray icon of NetExtender by right clicking and choosing View Log.. panel.

2. Double clicking a specific log entry, will give detailed view of the entry.

Note: If Support has asked to clear the logs and reproduce issue again, please click on clear logs icon at the top to flush the logs and recreate the issue to get the fresh set of logs.

3. To save the log, either click the Export icon at top or go to Log > Export panel.

4. You can also filter the log events to display entries from a specific duration of time under filter tab at top and selecting the desired cutoff threshold.


Obtaining NetExtender Debug Logs from client:

1. Launch the NetExtender client and click on Log viewer icon at left bottom side of client. You can also open log viewer from system tray icon of NetExtender by right clicking and choosing View Log.. panel.

      2. To view the Debug Log, either click the Debug Log icon or go to Log > Debug Log.

Note: If Support has asked to clear the logs and reproduce issue again, please click on clear logs icon at the top to flush the logs and recreate the issue to get the fresh set of logs.

     3. To save the log, either click the Export icon at top or go to Log > Export panel.
