How to find devices in LAN

Description

Sometimes it might happen that you need to find specific devices in the LAN network and you don't know their IPs addresses due to Dynamic IPs pools or that hostnames are appearing "Unknown"
I.e : assigning a dynamic IP to a switch or router which has an important value in the network can lead in losing the device management access.

Resolution

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

NOTE: Depending on network topologies, environments this article isn't providing a fully resolution.

First. we can check the following : 

  1. Navigate to Network Menu| System in the left tab menu and select DHCP Server. If you are using the DHCP Server from the appliance you will see at Current DHCP leases the IPs assigned dynamically to the devices in the LAN.
    Usually, you can identify the devices by IPs if you check the Hostname column or if you know the Ethernet Address of them, but It can happens that the Hostname to be "Unknown".

  2. Check the System|ARP tab. Check the Vendor column.
