DESCRIPTION: How to enable inter-administrator messaging?
When multiple administrators are configured, this option allows administrators to send text messages through the management interface to other administrators logged into the appliance. The message will appear in the browser’s status bar
To enable and configure this option, perform the following:
Login to the SonicWall management GUI
Navigate to the System > Administration page
Select radio-button Drop to non-config mode under On preemption by another administrator.
Set a polling interval under Messaging polling interval (seconds). This option sets how often the administrator’s browser will check for inter-administrator messages. If there are likely to be multiple administrators who need to access the appliance, this should be set to a reasonably short interval to ensure timely delivery of messages.
Click on Accept at the top to save the changes.
Navigate to the Users > Local Users page.
Create a local user with membership in either SonicWall Administrators or Limited Administrators group.
Have two administrators login to the SonicWall management GUI simultaneously with one of them in non-config mode.
Have any one or both the administrators navigate to the User > Status page. Note: A limited administrator will not be able to send messages to an administrator though an administrator can send messages to a limited administrator.
Each administrator will be able to see a Send message option under the other administrator's user name.
Click on the Send message option to bring-up the Message window.
Enter message text in the text box.
Click on OK to send the message.
The receiving administrator will see the message pop-up in the management interface. The receiving administrator has the option to reply to the message via the same window.
